They say you only regret the things you don’t do and hardly the things you do. So I have promised myself to do as much on my bucket list as possible while I am young. Partly, so I can have more space on my bucket list to continually add more exciting dreams. But, also to be satisfied with my life when the good Lord decides to call me home. So if that day should be tomorrow, here are the things I hope to have accomplished.
1. See the world.
I was born a travel bug. I wholeheartedly believe that it is the best form of education. The most knowledgeable people are the ones who have seen the world, understand differences in culture and lifestyles, and lived it to believe it. The world is meant to be explored. So why waste the opportunity?
2. Touched/inspired at least one person.
Knowing if I died tomorrow and I touched at least one soul on this earth, I would be extremely satisfied. My main goal in life is to change somebody else’s for the better. And if I can accomplish that, I will die happy.
3. Left a mark somewhere on this Earth.
It is cheesy to say but I hope to leave a legacy that at least 2 generations will remember me by. Whether that be these articles, a company I created, or simply an image displayed in my relatives home. Something to be remembered by to know that I accomplished my second goal listed above.
4. Loved and lost and loved again.
I feel like it is so important to know what it feels like to love and to have lost. And to build the courage to try for love again. To me, that is one of the strongest things a person can do. Be open to love with the understanding of potential heartbreak. It shows strength, passion, and courage to put yourself through such an intense, yet incredible experience.
5. Make at least one life-altering decision.
I hope to have made a decision on my own, with no help from parents, family, friends, or any other person in my life. Not just any decision either. One that impacts my life immensely and pushes me to be a better person than before. I want whatever life-changing decision I choose to show my strength and independence to the world because I am capable of making big things happen for myself. I just hope to prove that before I die.
6. Make my parents proud.
Your parents are known to say this daily, mainly because they have to, but sometimes they truly mean it. However, I want my parents to see my true successes, and even losses, that I turned into large opportunities for myself to be happy and successful and to be proud that I did. My parents raised me to shoot for the stars so someday I would actually hit one, not to sit and stare at them wishing I could. Believe me, mom and dad, I have already scraped the surface of a few but I have my eye set on the furthest one away and I promise I am going to reach it and do it with the highest of integrity.
I hope that my day doesn’t come tomorrow, but if it does, I can rest easy knowing I have already achieved portions of each of these categories. Enough so that I would be happy with my life so far. Life is too short and unexpected to plan and stay on schedule. It is, however, just enough time to dream and set goals with the intention of someday, whenever that may be, accomplishing it and doing it wholeheartedly.
