Life should be about striving every single day to be better than the person you were yesterday. Life should be not about erasing your past, but embracing it. It should be about exceeding expectation and never settling for less. It’s been a long time coming since I started living by these things, and I’m better than I used to be because of it.
I’ve learned to only help people who want it for themselves. People aren’t going to listen to any advice unless they are actually seeking to make that change on their own. If someone doesn’t want to better themselves, then it will be like talking to a brick wall. Utilize your time with people who appreciate your help and are seeking it; it is a waste of both your time and theirs, otherwise.
I’ve learned to put maximum effort into my work. Whether it is volunteer, paid, or what have you, put everything you got into it. People are watching. Sometimes hard work goes unnoticed but there will be that one person who comes along to praise you for it. Trust me.
I’ve learned to praise others. Let others know you appreciate their hard work. Give credit where credit is due. Karma, people.
I’ve learned to keep good deeds between me and God. Don’t ever toot your own horn when you do something great for another person. You should be doing it out of love for others and not brownie points. If getting recognition for being a good person is your motivation, you are doing it for all the wrong reasons. Love one another, care for one another, and help one another.
I’ve learned to love hard and love out loud. Love each individual that comes into your life because whether you are fond of them or not, they are only changing who you are into a better being for tomorrow. So love them for pushing you farther than ever. Love your significant other to the point you feel in it your bones. Love your family, friends, and any other important being in your life because these are the people to support you through all life’s happenings. Express it to them daily and let them know you appreciate them.
I’ve learned my future person is my role model. Where you want to be in life should be who you look up to. Also, your future self should always be evolving after each success, and fail. My role model will be a different version of my future self as years go on, and I am okay with that.
I’m proud of the past me and I’m looking forward to meeting the person I will be in the future.
