Hey Y’all!
I am honestly so frustrated with today’s work ethic toward entry level jobs and part-time positions. I must have been raised differently or just have a lot of pride in my future.
All I do know is that no matter what job I take on, I take pride in it all. I take pride in the daily tasks, in the interactions with guests, and in my relationships with coworkers.
I guess it’s because I look at it as: this job may be a stepping stone for me, but its a forever for someone else, and we should respect that. Taking pride in any position lets the people who devoted years to that company/job know that their job IS relevant and important.
Just, because it isn’t your forever doesn’t mean the job isn’t valid. Someone has got to do it and there are people out there that would love to do it for the rest of their lives. It is your “for now” and their “forever”, respect that.
I have worked since 2013 (age 15) in NUMEROUS fields. Radio, retail, quick service, full service, publishing, and nannying are just some to name a few. The one thing all of these positions have in common, is the amount of effort I put into them.
Believe me, a few of those jobs were NOT my cup of tea and I don’t ever think I will want to do again. But, I did it because I had to.
Maybe that is why I have the mentality I have, too. I HAVE to work, so I want to work for the money I need. Maybe not. I just know I take a lot of pride in all things.
I just wish others would too. Society deserves workers who care, from a consumer and business standpoint. I believe this is one main area America could do better.
Let’s start being prideful instead of entitled because the world doesn’t owe you a dang thing. You owe yourself a sense of purpose and drive to succeed.
This has been your daily dose of Vitamin C!
Wow. I absolutely love this. I think you hit this issue spot on. And no matter what point you are at in your life with a career, your attitude and work ethic now will affect your attitude and work ethic later!
Thank you so much, Shelby! I completely agree! The job is what you make it, 100%!
